The split-level style home plan was popular from 1955 through 1975, and was a variation of a ranch style home, typically featuring shallow pitched roofs and architectural styling, and several levels at varying heights. Originally architects created this style to sequester certain living activities, such as sleeping or socializing. The split-level homes offer a multilevel alternative to the ubiquitous Ranch style of the 1950s. A typical split-level design is usually devoted to a garage and TV/Family room at the lowest level; a midlevel, which usually jets out from the two-story section, and offers "quieter" quarters, such as the living, dining rooms & kitchen area; and the top level usually above the garage that is designed for the bedrooms or sleeping quarters. |
